Tidy Up Your Inbox Like a Boss

Updated: 1 day ago

This simple shift will save you time and make you look like a pro.

Let’s be real—most emails are messy, unclear, and way too long. When you're running a small business, there’s no time for confusion, which is why I love this military-inspired approach to writing short, sharp emails that get results.

Here’s the quick breakdown:

1. Use bold subject line keywords like:

ACTION – they need to do something

INFO – just keeping them in the loop

REQUEST – you need permission or a favor

Example: ACTION – Review Product Mockups

2. Start with the BLUF: Bottom Line Up Front.

Don’t bury the lead. Say what you need right away. Bold it. Highlight it. Tattoo it on your forehead if you must (okay, maybe not that).

Example: Bottom Line: We’re launching the sale on Tuesday at 9 AM. Please schedule the email and double-check all links by Monday.

3. Keep it tight.

Nobody wants to scroll a novella. Stick to the point, use bullets if needed, and always speak in active voice:

✔️ “We’re sending the order today.”

✖️ “The order will be sent by us today.”

These small tweaks can save you from miscommunication, mayhem, and being overwhelmed by your inbox. Plus, you’ll look like the organized, confident boss you are.

Now go forth and write emails that actually get read.
